The Golden Age of Comics was in the 1930s through the 1950s. Maybe it ran longer. I’m not a comic historian. I just glanced over at Wikipedia and took their word for it. But those early comics were simple, self contained, and maybe a little rough around the edges.

There are a lot of really good miniature painters out there. There are a few really great ones. I’m not one of those. But I do admire and follow a few. These are people who create YouTube videos and write up tutorials on how they paint models, and thousands of people try to replicate their results using the same paints and painting methods.

That was me. I would watch a video or read a tutorial on painting models from Warhammer 40k, Wrath of Kings, Malifaux, or Marvel Crisis Protocol, and I would take note of the different paint colors and brands the artist used, and I bought them all. Did those colors make the model look good? I like to think so. Did they make me a better painter? Probably not. It did give me a pretty hefty collection of paints from Citadel, Vallejo, Reaper, AK Interactive, Army Painter, P3, Scale75, and more.

Over time, I saw other articles and videos about limited color palettes. Yes, technically I know you can make any color you want using red, blue, yellow, black, and white. Or maybe cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. I don’t know. I don’t have an art background. I didn’t go to art school. I don’t hang out in museums. I sometimes have trouble drawing a straight line using a ruler. But can I paint Logan, the Wolverine, using six colors instead of 43 different paints?

Sure, I can try that.

That’s what this page is all about. For now. I’ll reserve the right to change my mind and do something completely different at any time. But I can, for a while, walk you through the process of how I take just a handful of colors that might not fit together on paper, mix them together, and come out with something we can both be happy with on the table.
